Europe
Austria
It’s difficult to dispute Austria’s Old World charm – think intricate palaces of the bygone Habsburg era and fanciful society waltzes to a soundtrack of Mozart or Strauss. The predominantly-German speaking Alpine country also holds modern appeal for those who love the great outdoors and adrenaline sports, beckoned by the siren call of jaw-dropping natural landscapes that are dramatically marked with diamond-like glaciers, ice caves and jagged mountain crags.
Belgium
Belgium is all about a harmonious fusion of old-world charm and modern culture and trends. From vintage castles, mansions, museums, and churches to modern architecture, shopping arcades, and amusements; this European gem is the home of many spectacular places for all types of vacationers.
Czech Republic
The Renaissance throwbacks and elegant Gothic architecture of Prague will undoubtedly be first on any traveler’s list when it comes to the Czech Republic – and for good reason. Cobblestone streets, a misty castle district, and its iconic statue-lined Charles Bridge are just a few reasons to kick off your trip to the capital. Go in the off-season if you want to avoid the crowds – the city gets millions of visitors each year.
France
Long live France – the birthplace of some of the world’s greatest artists, musicians, philosophers, writers, and, of course, wines and cheeses. The French live on the knife’s edge between modern innovation and time-honored tradition; charm and sophistication seem to ooze from every pore. No trip to France would be complete without a trip to Paris, the City of Lights: climb the steps of the Eiffel Tower, visit Mona Lisa at the Louvre, watch a sunset from Montmartre, or hear the bells ring at Notre Dame Cathedral. You could spend weeks in Paris on its own – and please do if you can spare the time.
Germany
If you think Germany is all about beer, lederhosen and sausages, you’re in for a shock – the geographical heart of Western Europe is packed with surprises. Known for their order and efficiency, Germans also love to let their hair down – they’ve embraced edgy street art, wild dance clubs and electronic music, and produce some of the world’s best Gewurztraminer and Riesling wines. Of course, there are also hundreds of varieties of sausage, plenty of places to celebrate Oktoberfest (wearing lederhosen or a dirndl), enough freshly-baked bread and pastries to derail even the most devout Banting traveller, and more than 5000 types of naturally-crafted beer.
